Hints and Tips

This time of year can be slow, impatiently waiting for spring and the onset of re-potting which gives us all the chance to indulge ourselves choosing new pots. A task not to be rushed, colour, shape and depth all play their part in the right pot for the right tree.

There are lots of unique pots being made which all lend themselves to make your Bonsai look special. Even with the right colour, shape, depth and glaze or lack of it are wasted if the pot is to big.

It can ruin the desired effect, taking away the impression of age, balance and strength. If it's too small, the tree suffers, quickly becoming pot bound and unhealthy and even dying. It always surprises me just how much a tree fits into a small pot and looks brilliant.

So take your time, discuss it with other members, 'getting it right makes all the difference'.
